Safety inspections, testing and test and tag
What a proper inspection actually covers, what test and tag means for your business, and the written report you walk away with.
What we cover
- Full switchboard inspection and circuit identification
- Test and tag (appliance testing) - commercial and residential
- Safety switch (RCD) testing and trip-time verification
- Hardwired smoke alarm testing, replacement and placement check
- Visible wiring, outlet and fitting condition check
- Pre-purchase inspections for buyers
- Rental property and landlord safety checks

Test and tag - big for business, smart at home
Appliance test and tag is how a workplace proves its gear is safe: leads, power boards, tools and equipment tested to AS/NZS 3760, tagged with the test date, and recorded in a register you can show WorkSafe. We test and tag shops, offices, worksites and farms - and homes too, because the shed full of power tools deserves the same check. Reminders when retests fall due.
Buying a house in the district
A building inspection will tell you about the roof and the stumps. It will usually not tell you that the switchboard is full, has no RCDs, and that the sleepout was wired by somebody's uncle. An electrical inspection before you sign is cheap compared to what a rewire costs afterwards.
Rental properties
Victorian rental law requires electrical safety checks on rental properties at set intervals, and smoke alarms have their own testing requirements. We do these checks and give you the documentation for your records.
Smoke alarms
Alarms have a service life and expire whether or not they still beep when you press the button. We check age, type, placement and interconnection, not just whether the light is on.

Questions people actually ask
What do you actually check?
The switchboard and every circuit on it, RCD operation and trip times, smoke alarms, and the condition of accessible wiring, outlets and fittings. You get a written summary of what was found and what, if anything, needs doing.
Do you do test and tag for businesses?
Yes - shops, offices, worksites and farms, tested to AS/NZS 3760 with a register supplied and reminders when retests fall due. We do residential test and tag too.
How often should safety switches be tested?
Push the test button on your RCDs about every three months - it takes ten seconds. That only proves the mechanism moves though. A proper test measures how fast it actually trips, which needs an instrument.
Can you do a landlord safety check?
Yes, including the documentation you need to keep on file.
